Do you enjoy the magic and glitz of Broadway and the theater? Are you a fan of such musical greats as "Phantom of the Opera" and "Cats"? If you are, then you will be delighted to hear that the world-renowned production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" has arrived in Branson!
This famous Andrew Lloyd Webber production is based on the timeless saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors. In this classic story, Joseph is one of the youngest of twelve brothers and his father's favorite. An expensive "coat of many colors" is given to Joseph as a gift and fuels his brothers' resentment. Their anger builds until they eventually kidnap him and take him into the desert to die. At the last minute, they sell him to slave traders instead. Using his coat of many colors, they convince their father that Joseph was attacked by a wild beast and is dead. Meanwhile, Joseph is sold into Egypt as a servant.
The musical tells the story of Joseph's life in Egypt, and...
- ...how he rises in favor as the servant of a powerful man, Potiphar.
- ...how Potiphar's wife has Joseph thrown into jail.
- ...how Joseph becomes well known in prison and ultimately is released by being able to interpret a dream of the Pharaoh, who elevates him to a position which ultimately allows Joseph to be reunited with his brothers and Father.
The first performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was a 15-minute cantata at the Colet Court School in London in 1968. Over the years, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice have expanded the musical, evolving it into the current performing version. Millions worldwide love this highly popular and successful production, replete with energizing choreography and original music.
